Cinnamon bark

Cinnamon is a plant, a member of the Laurel family. It originated from Southeast Asia, from Ceylon and China.

The spice is made from the bark of the cinnamon tree, which is that is dried and ground. Because of its healing properties it was used in numerous traditional medicines. There are records of the spice in Egyptian, Greek and Roman manuscripts.

It has a mild flavour and is commonly used in confectionery. Cinnamon leaves are used to make essential oils in the perfume industry.
