Polenta used to be a typical dish of the poor throughout Europe, but today it is prepared in exclusive restaurants.
Polenta is very easy and quick to make. It can be an excellent side dish with vegetables, fish or meat or it can be the main course by itself. In Croatia, it is usually served with fried bacon and čvarci (pork cracklings) or with pickled cabbage.
